On April 27, 2005, the State Department released the annual Country Reports on Terrorism 2004

State Department Counselor Zelikow: "Terrorism remains a global threat from which no nation is immune. Despite ongoing improvements in U.S. homeland security, our campaigns against insurgents and terrorists, and the deepening counter terrorism cooperation among the nations of the world, international terrorism continued to pose a significant threat to the United States and its partners in 2004."

April 27, 2005: Report Calls Struggle Against International Terrorism "Formidable

The battle against international terrorism remains formidable despite improved domestic security measures, military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, and deepening international counterterrorism cooperation, according to the State Department's latest annual terrorism report.

April 27, 2005: State Department Identifies 40 Foreign Terrorist Organizations

The U.S. State Department has identified 40 Foreign Terrorist Organizations in its annual terrorism report. Designation of a group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization results in the U.S. government blocking assets held in U.S. financial institutions, denying its members visas, and making it a crime for U.S. citizens or others within U.S. jurisdiction to provide it with support or resources.
